Attracting Abundance, Part 4

Another great way to attract abundance is to spread some love around, whether to the world, your community, your tribe, or the homeless guy on the corner. Not begrudgingly, because it’s your job, or your kid, or you’ve been programmed that such and such is the right thing to do. What’s important is to get your heart literally vibrating for someone or something.

Maybe everyone experiences this differently, but I know I’m hitting the zone when I feel a melting or warm sensation in my chest. The trick is to be able to do this at will, and being human, sometimes it feels dull as a board in there.

When I’m having trouble accessing the groovy love feeling, my trick lately is to focus on my dog, Luna. Not that I don’t love many people as much as I love her, but something happened last year that affected me in a strange way: I lost her for three weeks. During that time I searched every, single day, and learned quite a bit about visualizing and shifting energy. But that’s another story.

The point is, whenever I remember how it felt to get Luna back, I feel overwhelming love and gratitude. Then quick, like changing a channel, I replace that image in my mind’s eye with whatever it is that I’m trying to attract. It’s like a bell that keeps vibrating after its struck. Remember, it doesn’t matter who or what you think about, as long as it you really feel it. It’s like exercising a muscle until it gets stronger.

But what does it have to do with attracting abundance? In my experience, ev-er-y-thing.

In my example in Part 3, I didn’t start out by looking around going, hmm, now, who can I get to build me a blog for free. I helped my friend because I wanted to, which made her want to help me. We can give the love we already feel, to attract more of it. And by love, I mean all the good things you can name.

And for the record, lest it seems I’m trying to portray myself as a self-sacrificing, do-good type, never thinking of myself… please understand, not even close. I just want to be happy, like everyone else.

Sometimes we think, “I don’t have enough (time, money, skills, energy) to give any more away. I can’t even help myself right now.” That’s understandable. When we feel ourselves lacking something crucial, we get scared, we tend to contract our energy, hunker down, hide, and obsessively focus on what we lack. This may be a normal reaction, but it’s not productive.

Fear and lack attract fear and lack. Generosity and creativity attract more of that. It can feel counter-intuitive, because we are not always taught to operate this way, but the coolest thing about being human is that we can change. We can decide if one way of being hasn’t worked out the best, to do it differently.

Love is not a finite resource, so don’t be afraid to spread it around. If you’re shy, or worried about people thinking your’re a hippy flake (or on drugs), you don’t even have to tell anyone what you’re doing. It will still work, because intention, attitude, energy are everything.

But if you take the plunge and actually start talking to people about love and the spirit-driven life, you’ll be surprised at how many people actually get it. It is the be all and end all, just like the Beatles said. Love is the greatest magnet ever invented, and that includes attracting abundance.

What Do You Think?

Have you ever had the experience of things dropping into your lap just because you were feeling happy?
